Strictly Street Salsa Motivated by a passionate dream of sharing the Latin American culture and with 5 students in a small dance studio, what is now known as Strictly Street Salsa was born. That was 1998 and today, Strictly Street Salsa has instructed thousands of students across the state of Texas.
The Cougar Salseros dance program is the first and oldest dance program in Houston Texas. It began on the fall of 1998 at UH main campus as a student organization by Jorge Mercado. Thousands of dancers have taken their basic classes at this program and it had helped to develop some of the best dancers in Texas. The main purpose is not only to expose students to the different communities, culture and heritage through dance, but also to build a positive body image and self esteem, to increase strength, flexibility and agility, to encourage positive socialization and to develop a deep appreciation of one's culture.
